6.3.7 Other Religious Texts

References to the sacred or revered writings of other religious traditions may be treated, according to context, in the same general manner as hierological, classical, or primary-source texts. When citing a translated or transliterated work, identify the edition, version, or translator where this information is relevant to the reader.

Collective titles such as the Vedas or the Upanishads are normally capitalized and set in roman type. Specific works within those traditions are generally italicized, as in Rig-Veda or Brihad-Aranyaka Upanishad.

For specialized usage, spelling, and citation conventions, authors and editors should consult reliable scholarly sources in the relevant religious tradition and record any project-specific decisions in the style sheet.
