2.3.4.3 Pronouns Referring to Divinity

Avoid unnecessary gender-specific pronouns when referring to divinity, ultimate reality, divine persons, god-forms, angels, bodhisattvas, emanations, or other sacred beings; see §2.3.1: Bias-Free Language. Use the language appropriate to the tradition, source, or argument, but do not default to masculine or feminine pronouns where they are not needed.

When gendered pronouns are required by the source or context, lowercase them: he, him, his; she, her, hers; they, them, theirs. Do not capitalize divine pronouns unless preserving capitalization in quoted material or following a project-specific convention recorded in the style sheet. For formal expressions such as Crowned and Conquering Child, see §2.3.4.2: Names Referring to Divinity.
