1.1.4 Fact Checking & Verification

The author bears primary responsibility for fact-checking the manuscript and verifying all quotations, citations, and references to primary texts. This includes making sure that bibliographic information is complete and accurate, that references point to the correct source or passage, and that quoted material is reproduced faithfully.

Quotations must match the original not only in wording, but also in spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and other relevant details. This is especially important when quoting sacred texts, ritual materials, historical documents, poetry, or technical passages where even small changes may affect meaning. Clear errors or unusual wording in the original may be marked with bracketed sic, without an exclamation point. Minor typographical mistakes, however, may sometimes be silently corrected when noting them would only distract from the substance of the quotation.
