1.4 Editorial Responsibilities
Editors and proofreaders should work to preserve both consistency of style and the particular needs of each work. A manuscript should not be forced into mechanical uniformity when its subject, genre, or intended audience requires a more careful judgment. At the same time, consistency cannot be left to instinct. Editors therefore rely on a clear order of authorities when making style decisions.
The usual order of authority is as follows:
- The book or project style sheet (§1.4.1)
- Mere Thelema Manual of Style (§1.4.2)
- The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed. (§1.4.3)
- Other relevant authorities, when needed, including dictionaries, specialized academic style guides, publisher requirements, or established conventions within Thelemic and occultural writing. (§1.4.4)
